Moms and Dads Keep Real Estate Strong
An ode to all the things moms–and dads–look for in a new home.
Mom's typically choose the house to buy. She is usually the one on a mission in search of a great kitchen to cook many home meals, a mud room for the kids knapsacks and muddy shoes, a spot to do homework and a large master bedroom closet for her clothes. Dad can have the smaller closet or the one in the guest bedroom.
To survive, she needs a playground nearby to meet other moms to talk with or to arrange play dates. Mom is also a fan of a soaking tub and she can imagine herself enjoying a tranquil moment; which in reality will only happen once or twice. Dads seem to prefer a steam shower. Mom will notice if the hall bathroom is with or without a glass shower door which can become an obstacle when bathing small children. She also wants a desk area in the kitchen for her computer, calendar and household paperwork, while dad wants his office to be a little secluded and quiet.
BOTH moms and dads are enamored with flat yards, decks or patios, wood floors and new windows allowing lots of sunshine to stream in. Exercise rooms seem to make both mom and dads equally happy.

DAD features recently have caught on. Getting a lot of attention lately are “man cave" spaces, home theaters, wine rooms and outdoor areas for the cigar smoking. While mom is looking for closet space, dad is looking for a spot for the pool table. Dad spends more time at work than at home, so he will usually relinquish his “must haves” to his wife.
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are on the calendar each once a year, but in real estate we celebrate with our mom and dad clients each time they find the perfect house that meets their mom and dad requirements!
