Need Help After Irene? Here Are Some Contacts

If your yard is covered with branches, or there's water in your basement, here's where you can find help.

A day after Hurricane Irene swept through the area, many residents will be seeking help on things needing attention. Here's a run-down on some contacts you may need:

You Need To Know Who To Call If Your Basement Flooded: You can call the fire department with help draining water in your basement if you have eight inches or more of water. Less than that, they won't help, and you'll need to check with area plumbers—or neighbors.

To contact the fire company, call:

  • Summit Fire Department: 908-277-1033
  • Summit Police Department: 908-273-0051

You Need To Know How To Check For Power Restoration: Many residents are wthout power, and it's hard to know for certain when it will be restored. JCP&L customers can track progress towards power restoration on the company's Outage Map, which is updated every 15 minutes.

You Need To Know Where To Eat: Many of the city's eateries are open. Best to call ahead to be certain. The Summit Diner, for example, was open from Sunday morning.

You Need To Know Who To Call For Downed Tree Limbs: City crews will be cleaning up the downed trees and limbs on the roadways throughout town; if you need someone to cut trees, limbs and branches, try calling these local companies:

You Need To Know the Weather: The sun will be out today!

The outage map is of no help. We live on West End Ave. Any ideas when the power will be restored? We have yet to see a JCP&L truck & it's been three days without electricity.????
