Oak Knoll Senior Awarded Prudential Spirit of Community Award

Sonja Podesta helped develop the Free Market Committee, a student-run initiative and online program that also has a physical location at the City of Summit Transfer Station.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Sonja recently received a state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Sonja was nominated by members of the Upper School faculty and administration.
• Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: In her sophomore year, the Summit resident helped develop the Free Market Committee, a student-run initiative and online program that also has a physical location at the City of Summit Transfer Station. The committee is an exchange program that encourages residents to bring reusable items that they no longer use and offers reusable items they might need. Now in her senior year, Sonja continues to serve as a student representative on the Free Market Committee. Sonja is also a volunteer on the Recycling Advisory Committee and has proposed a community garden for area senior housing, all for the City of Summit. In addition, she is the president of Oak Knoll’s environmental group, the Green Team.
