With up to 2 inches of snow in some parts of Summit from the storm the night before, Sunday was the perfect day for Santa Claus to make his first visit to town before the big event on Christmas Eve. The Square Yard hosted Santa's arrival as he and his reindeer landed on the roof just before 3 p.m. With the aid of the Summit Fire Department Santa made his way down to street level via hook and ladder. A large crowd came out for the event, estimated at close to 300.
In addition to Santa's big entrance, there were horse and carriage rides running throughout the afternoon. Riders were picked up near the public parking lot on Beechwood Road, and were treated to a ride throughout the downtown area as they serenaded with Christmas Carols by the ladies of the True Blue Quartet.
