Summit Public Schools Will Be Closed Tomorrow, JCP&L Estimates When Power Will Be Restored

Mayor Glatt announces school closings. Assemblyman John Bramnick gives a JCP&L update tracking how many people will see power restored on a day by day basis.

In the wake of the last weekend's historic snow storm, Summit and JCP&L continue to work to clean up fallen debris and restore power to the city. Downed power lines and lack of electricity continue to cause hazardous conditions in Summit. The latest information provided by JCP&L states that over 7,400 people are without power in Summit.

Throughout Patch’s coverage of “Snowtober,” many parents voiced their concerns regarding school closings, noting that as long as the power continues to be out and trees limbs blanket neighborhood streets, it is not safe for their children to return to school. Now, those parents can breathe a little easier as Mayor Jordan Glatt has confirmed that there will be no school tomorrow for Summit Public School students.

Mayor Jordan Glatt delivered this code red update earlier this evening on the impact of the local storm.

“Public Schools will remain closed tomorrow, November 2nd.

• The warming and charging station will remain open at the Middle School.
• Our electric utility, JCP&L estimates that power will be restored to all Summit customers by midnight, Friday, November 4th. I want to be clear – this is the estimate of JCP&L.
• There continue to be many energized electrical wires down that present a hazard --- all downed wires should be treated as energized and dangerous – please stay away.

Thank you for your continued patience during this period.”
