"Thoroughly Modern Millie" Now Playing at Summit High

Curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m.

Here are five things you need to know today, March 3, 2011:

  1. The Summit High School Performing Arts Department will present the Tony Award winning musical, , tonight at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults.
  2. The Thursday Evening Salon Series continues at The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey tonight at 7:30 p.m. with "What is Aesthetic Experience?" Presented by Tiger Roholt, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Montclair State University. What's the difference between an aesthetic experience and an ordinary experience? What do you do – actively – to generate an aesthetic experience? Come explore philosophers' views on these issues. Tiger Roholt will highlight dimensions of your own aesthetic experiences that you hadn't previously noticed, perhaps enriching your future visual understanding and appreciation.
  3. Fashion Rules! Well, at least, today at The Fashion Rules party at Neiman Marcus at The Mall at Short Hills. Neiman Marcus is hosting a Trend Fashion Presentation by Tanya Dukes, style editor of Elite Traveler Magazine. This special evening is celebrating the world's top designers and creations. There will be special gifts with purchase. You can also strike a pose in the photo booth, and enjoy music, food and beverages.  This event will take place store-wide.  Reservations are required and space is  limited.   4. Summit Medical Group will host a lecture tonight on causes and ways to minimize the risks of fainting. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Berkeley Heights Campus.
  5. Registration for first grade will be held on March 2, 3, and 4 for children of Summit residents whose sixth birthday falls on or before October 1, 2011. Registration will take place at the Summit elementary school the children will attend. If a parent is not sure in which elementary school neighborhood they reside, they may find out by calling the Summit Board of Education at 908-918- 2100, x3102.   Appointments are necessary for registration and can be made by calling the schools:  Brayton School, (908) 273-1276; Franklin School, (908) 277-2613; Jefferson School, (908) 273-3807; Lincoln-Hubbard School, (908) 273-1333; Washington School, (908) 273-0817.   Registration forms can be found on the Summit Public Schools website, www.summit.k12.nj.us. All completed registration forms must be submitted at the time of registration except for the medical forms, which must be completed and submitted to the schools by June 1, 2011. However, parents may submit the medical forms at registration if they are completed by that time. Also required at the time of registration are:   • The child's official birth certificate with raised seal. (Passport is acceptable if birth certificate is not available.)   • Four proofs of Summit residency. (Acceptable proofs of residency are listed on page 2 of the Preliminary Information sheet included in the registration packet.)
