Week in Review: Zoning Board Gears Up for 3 May Helipad Hearings

Board wraps up April with additional testimony from Planner Peter Steck.

This week sort of felt like a transition. As the last week in April it technically is a transistion to May but it felt, to us at Summit Patch at least, like it symbolized more than that. As we move from April to May we also inch closer to the summer everyone in town is itching to get to. We had two events downtown to help quicken the transition but the rain wouldn't let Hilltoppers walk away completely untouched by the spring rains. But mostly, this week marked a huge transition in the zoning board helipad hearings. The board is on the verge of concluding testimony and is prepared to begin hearing public comments at either of the next two meetings. So, as the Hill City prepares to close the door on April, here's the rundown of all the meetings, events and high school sports you might have missed this week:

On Monday we opened with a gallery of the damp, yet hopping Street Fair, we had a great contribution from a local resident who attended Rick Wolff's talk about sports parenting, we sat down with Rocco Flores to discuss the addition of Sunday Brunch to the Bona Vita Osteria menu, and brought you coverage of your undefeated Hilltopper boys lacrosse team.

On Tuesday, we brought you coverage of the Planning Board's approval of the Franklin Place ordinace but as with everything in Summit it didn't come without some controversy, also told you about a committee the Planning Board is forming to look at potential additional and temporary uses in the Central Retail Business District, we caught up with Mayor Jordan Glatt to follow up on his comments at last week's council meeting at which he suggested the Board of Education become an elected school board, and profiled a rising tennis star at Summit High: Matt Celona.

On Wedneday we brought you the second piece in our series with Hometowne Television on the Overlook helipad hearing. This week's piece goes behind the jargen and process and breaks down everything you need to know about zoning and some of the terminology being used in this case. We also brought you coverage from the varsity baseball, girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse games. And last but certainly not least, we brought you coverage from the lastest hearing on the Overlook zoning board application hearing.

On Thursday we brought you one final report from Monday's planning board meeting, previewed the second annual girls night out, and brought you coverage from varsity softball and boys volleyball.

On Friday, we brought you a photo gallery from Girls Night Out, a report from an intense baseball game against Roselle Catholic, and brought you reaction to the new Kyleigh's Law requirements that took effect this weekend.
