Women’s Self-Defense Workshop

What: Please join us in a women’s self-defense seminar being presented by Master Robert Schneider, Certified Rape Escape Instructor. "Clary’s Exodus"

What: The production will be followed by a lively discussion with the playwrights, directors, actors and audience. “Clary’s Exodus” is set in Harlem in 1926. With Prohibition is full swing, and blues clubs sizzling hot, the story centers on a girl struggling to cope with a shocking truth about her past and a woman trying to find her own path to spirituality without losing her soul. Various musical styles help depict the characters’ very different background, including the driving sound of urban blues, Jewish religious music, and popular radio evangelist tunes.

"Sleeping Beauty"

What: Kean Stage will present the Moscow Festival Ballet’s dazzling production of the ballet classic Sleeping Beauty in Wilkins Theatre. The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 by legendary Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Sergei Radchenko. The company, which incorporates classical elements of the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies, will tell the classic story of a beautiful girl condemned to die, but saved by a century-long sleep, who wakes to find love with a dashing prince.

"Bling"

What: Bling, by definition, refers to a lifestyle of ostentatious wealth. The word has its origins in hip-hop as slang that was first used in the 1990’s to describe over-the-top, extravagant jewelry, symbolic of prosperity and status. Today the word has become a commonplace term for flashy accessories, from rhinestone embellished t-shirts to 20” chrome car wheels, and more. This show gives a nod to the cultural origins of the term and acknowledges the concept as one of indulgence and excessiveness, while playfully applying the idea to our visual experience.
