Lizza Bests Vernotico for Second Ward Common Council Seat

Republicans sweep Summit Common Council election.

Republican Sandra Lizza bested Democratic opponent Mike Vernotico to win a seat on Summit's Common Council. Lizza garnered 1,548 votes to Vernotico's 1,274.

An 18-year Summit resident and mother of two, the Ward II victor boasts nearly a quarter century's experience in the finance industry. While Lizza has been active in the community, volunteering her time within the school district as well as the Summit Historic Preservation Commission, Summit Area Public Foundation, and Summit Supports Our Troops and Scouts, this will be her first term on the Council. Vernotico, who grew up in Summit, was previously elected to the Council in 2005.

Fellow Republican Mike McTernan, also a newcomer to the Council, won the Ward I seat. He was unopposed as was incumbent Gregory Drummond, the Republican Councilman-at-Large candidate.
