Dee Dee Ricks and Congressman Leonard Lance at Curémonos' 5th Anniversary Celebration

Curémonos, a community-based organization created to help, guide, and educate medically underserved women who are affected by breast cancer, will celebrate its 5th Anniversary on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Beacon Hill Club in Summit.  The theme for the evening - The seed has been planted; Curémonos is growing for the future - is not only the result of the organization's past success, but also of the ever present need for the expansion of their programs to other underserved communities.  The Guest Speakers at this year's celebration will be Dee Dee Ricks and Congressman Leonard Lance.  The Medical Honoree will be Dr. Bonni Guerin for her work with the Breast Cancer Prevention Program at the Carol Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Medical Center.

Dee Dee Ricks is an entrepreneur, public health advocate, and expert on patient navigation. A breast cancer survivor, Dee Dee is co-founder of the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute.  Believing that healthcare is a fundamental human right, Dee Dee has worked tirelessly with organizations to serve marginalized communities and to mend the gap in access to healthcare.

Congressman Leonard Lance has served as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's  7th congressional district since 2009.  In June of 2012, Congressman Lance introduced the "Breast Cancer Patient Education Act".  The bill, which requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to plan and implement an education campaign informing breast cancer patients on the availability and coverage of breast reconstruction and other options.  The "Breast Cancer Patient Education Act" empowers women to make the best healthcare choices for their unique circumstances.

Both Dee Dee and Congressman Lance are proud to partner with Curémonos as it continues to establish a strong movement towards change by collaborating with healthcare and community organizations to eliminate the barriers medically underserved women face in accessing medical care and services.  The organization seeks to empower women in the fight against breast cancer through education and support.
