Easter Vigil @ St. John's, Summit

When does Easter begin? Easter begins with the Easter Vigil, which is at 8 PM on April 19th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit. In the Church, as in Judaism, days are counted from sundown to sundown. So, Easter begins on the Saturday of Holy Week. Yes, Virginia, Easter Vigil IS Easter. The Vigil begins outside in darkness with a bonfire to symbolize our going to the dark tomb and finding Jesus raised from the dead. In the resurrection of Jesus, we proclaim that the light of life has conquered the darkness of death. In the nighttime, we declare Christ is the light of all. Life as we know it has been turned upside down by Jesus’ resurrection. All are welcome. St. John’s is located at 587 Springfield Ave. in Summit.
