Summit Common Council Candidates' Forum Co-Sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Speak Up Summit

The Summit Common Council
Candidates’ Forum will be held on Thursday, October 24 from 7-9pm at Summit
High School, 125 Kent Place Boulevard.

Co-sponsored by the Summit
League of Women Voters and Speak Up Summit, the forum allows voters to hear where
the candidates stand on the important issues impacting Summit. Each candidate
will have the opportunity to deliver an opening statement. Following these, the
candidates will answer questions posed by the audience, using a debate format.
The forum will be moderated by the Berkeley Heights League’s Marlene Sincaglia
and a review panel will consist of members of both groups.

The following candidates
will be participating:

For several years now, the
League and Speak Up Summit have worked together to present this forum to
provide the community with the information they need to make informed choices
on Election Day.

“With so many good
candidates running, it is critical that the voters become informed on all the
issues and where the candidates stand on them, so that they can choose the
candidates who will best represent them.
We encourage voters to come out and ask good questions,” said Speak Up
Summit President Melanie Wilson.

“We are happy to once again
provide a forum for Summit voters where they can hear the candidates answer
spontaneously the tough questions posed to them. We hope it will help them with
their decisions on Election Day,” Diane Gallo, vice president of the League of
Women Voters of Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Summit.

It is a partnership of local community leaders, business owners and concerned
citizens who believe that an excellent public school system is vital to the
well-being of the entire community. Its purpose is to educate the
general public on the importance of quality public schools so that support for
our public schools becomes the clear and abiding community standard; to provide
independent community perspective of the schools, the Board of Education, and
the superintendent’s office to ensure that our schools are providing the best
educational experience possible; and, to speak up on those issues affecting our
children’s ability to receive an excellent public school education.  Visit www.speakupsummit.org or https://www.facebook.com/pages/Speak-Up-Summit/154353667965112
