Summit to the Shore Concert to Benefit Sandy Ground Project

Mayor Ellen Dickson and Councilman Robert Rubino will host
the Summit to the Shore Concert Event presented by Investors Bank with Overlook
Medical Center on Summit’s Village Green on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 7 PM. The
“Hot Summer Nights Concert Series’ has been sponsored by Investors Bank for
over four years. Investors Bank is joined by Overlook Medical Center this year
to support the New Jersey Fireman’s Benevolent Association’s Sandy Ground Project.
The FMBA has pledged to build 26 playgrounds in cities ravaged by Hurricane
Sandy in NJ, NY and CT. These 26 playgrounds will be dedicated to the 26 lives
lost in the school shootings in Newtown, Ct.

This first night of the “Hot Summer Nights” Concert Series
will feature the band Parrotbeach, a Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band. This FREE
concert will take place at the Summit Village Green at the corner of Broad and
Maple Streets, directly across from the Summit Train Station. The concert
starts at 7 PM, with a very special rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Concert goers are urged to wear the T-Shirt from their favorite Jersey Shore
town. There will be a giant banner, donated by Gary Baron of the Sign Center in
Berkeley Heights, NJ. You are welcome to sign the banner that will be exhibited
at the next ground breaking ceremony for the Sandy Ground Project. The
Highlands is the next location selected. Already, NJ playgrounds have been
built in Sea Bright and Union Beach, with Normandy Beach and The Highlands next
in their sites.

The Summit Fire Department will be on hand, with local
delegate Firefighter Tim Duetsch.  Firefighters from around the state are
expected to attend. 26 sand buckets will be available to accept donations.
Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted. You can purchase something from the
Sandy Ground Project Store, all proceeds going to the project. This is the
perfect way to start off the summer with good music, community and a statement
to the folks at the Jersey Shore and Newtown Ct., that they are not forgotten.

The NJ FMBA took on this project along with their other
volunteer work in Hurricane Sandy recovery. On their own time, members of the
NJ FMBA helped to clear out people’s homes, help them clean and sanitize and
offer them a hot meal, good coffee and kind words. This concert event will be a
great opportunity to say thank you to NJ’s bravest!

In the event of rain, the Summit to the Shore Concert will
be held the following Tuesday, featuring the Bronx Wanderers. For up to the minute
