Rockin' Renaissance Church Christmas Concert Celebrates Songs of the Season

Band received a standing ovation for its powerful performance of traditional Christmas tunes and classic carols.

Renaissance Church brings the wonder of the Christmas season to life through song at its multiple, high-energy concerts, which began Thursday and run through Sunday at the Summit Opera House.

In their 13th year, the annual shows are free, making them a true gift to the community.

Interspersed between the electrifying performances are passages from the Christmas story, read by Pastor Rich Teeters and an entertaining, original short film about three 'wise' men who find themselves on an unexpected journey to follow a star.

The audience was invited to sing carols with the amazing performers, who include Broadway's Becky Gulsvig, multi-talented musician Ian McGlynn, guitarist and composer Jason Loughlin and voice teacher Julie Rogers.

Jimmy Leahey (guitar), Dave Anthony (drums) and Jens Madsen (guitar, vocals) blew the room away with their unique take on 'Little Drummer Boy.'

Sharing more than just music this season, Renaissance Church recently held a toy drive for the Division of Youth and Family Services and collected toys for 250 children who otherwise would not have received gifts this Christmas. Giving back is part of the Church's mission. In September, Renaissance held its first Concert on the Green and amassed three van-loads of food which was donated to Summit-area schools' food pantry.

Teeters invited attendees to join the church as it hosts Christmas Eve services at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The 45-minute services will have a message, hot beverages, and a special Christmas photo booth.

Beginning the first weekend of January, Renaissance introduces 'The Fight: Winning the Battles That Matter Most.' Services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 and at 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5.
