The Problems With Buying Things That Are Just Too Big!

The problems with buying things that are just to BIG and getting them home in one piece.

Well I'm back again, this time to talk about buying things that are just too BIG!  It's not always about finding the perfect "Find," sometimes you wish you didn't buy something because of it's size or shape or you wish that you had just said "NO." Even if it's great you still have to complete the cycle and get the "Find" into your house. And let me tell you this is not always an easy process!

My day started out with a real chuckle.  It's good when you can laugh at yourself and boy did I laugh at myself today. Last week, I had decided to order some promotional merchandise from the vendor I had ordered my business cards from, Vista Print; an online company. My logo on my business cards is an antique chair, table, and lamp with blue garage sale tickets hanging off of them.  It's catchy and unique and I thought it would look great on the back of my car to promote my new business; so I decided to order a car magnet for my Jeep. The website asked me if I wanted a small or large magnet so naturally I hit the button for large!  I wanted people to be able to read the print. I also ordered some stickers and stationary, but didn't go overboard; just a few items. As I was ready to leave to go out "Picking" that day, the UPS man showed up at my front door with a huge box for me.  I looked at him surprised at the size of the box but signed for it anyway and carried it into my house.  I couldn't wait to rip open the box to see what was inside.  I knew what I had ordered and I knew it wasn't that "BIG!"  As I pulled my order from the box I  fell to the floor and almost peed my pants from laughing so hard! It was a perfect moment for America's Home Funniest Video's. The car magnet I had ordered was the size of the door on my Jeep! It was 3 ft x 2 ft in size with my name and phone number in bold print and I had ordered two of them!  What was I gonna do with this?  I guess it will go onto my refrigerator during one of my sales because I can't think of any other use!  Like I said, it's great to be able to laugh at yourself and your mistakes!

That was only the beginning of my chaos for the day and it only got funnier from that point on.  I ended up at one of my favorite second-hand stores, Sage Re-Sale Shop in Summit.  I love that place and I'm friendly with the owner, Rose. There I bought this awesome glass coffee table which was really unique and different. It had gold leaf legs and a scalloped edge glass top.  It was "HUGE" but the perfect coffee table for any living room in a mansion in Summit.  After I bought it, I was overwhelmed and stressed; because  I knew it was going to be really hard to get home. When you buy something here usually they want you to take it right away, that's how you get the best prices! I knew I was going to need help to get this table out of here! I asked them if I could come back after school with my three boys to help me.

After school pickup, I dragged my three sons with me back to Sage Re-Sale Shop. They were frustrated that they had to help me, but I assured them it would only take a few minutes! The coffee table was huge and a rather large, unique shape! Thank god the legs were able to screw off because there was no way it would have fit in my Jeep with the legs on. It took all four of us to hold the glass to get each leg off. The glass must of weighed over 200 lbs! We were sweating already and we hadn't even left the store! I could see my boys getting mad at me as more time flew by! We took beach towels and drop cloths and wrapped it around the glass. There was no way we were going to chip or scratch this glass.  The four of us hoisted the glass up; we could barely lift it.  As we got to the door, we realized it wasn't going to fit through the door unless we held it vertically. It took every ounce of strength we had for us to get it into this position and out the door.  We were laughing so hard, sweating, and almost crying at the same time.  It was definitly a family bonding moment. By the time we got the glass into the Jeep, out of the Jeep, and on to the sidewalk by our garage almost two hours had gone by.  The boys didn't seem to care anymore because we were all determined to get this table unscratched and in one piece into our garage.  It was now a competitive game that we had to "WIN."

Our last challenge was to turn the glass into a vertical position and put it into the garage in a safe spot. We were physically exhausted, and had to put the glass down to rest every couple of feet.  This glass weighed over 200 lbs! At one point, the glass slipped from our grip, and landed on my oldest son's toes.  Not a word escaped from his mouth and I could see his eyes welling.  When he finally spoke he said, "I think I broke my toe."  It was another moment for America's Home Funniest Video's. Wish they were there that day!  If anybody had been watching us they could have sat there with popcorn and candy and laughed all afternoon!  You couldn't have rented a better movie!

After our successful placement of the glass coffee table in the garage, all we could do was  laugh!  I don't think anyone of us will ever forget this day and will probably talk about it forever.  What I learned, is even if the "FIND" is awesome, it's "OK" to say "NO" to a purchase. This beautiful glass coffee table will be for sale in my Summit home just make sure you have "HELP" to get it to your house.

Stay tuned: Friday's are the best days at the Flea Market and Belmar is having their town Garage Sale. I'm sure there will be stories to follow.
