Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women 14 (and have completed the 8th grade) through 20 years of age. Its purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. The aim is to create and foster a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youths pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills and become good citizens.
Summit Elks Lodge #1246 has been awarded a $2,000 Promise Grant from the Elks National Foundation to assist with holding this kickoff event aimed at raising awareness about the Venturing Scouts program and recruiting new members to start a local Summit area Venturing Scout Chapter. Summit Elks Lodge #1246 will act as the Charter Sponsor. The grant provides the Lodge with the means to cover most of the costs associated with the event including the climbing, food and beverages. As result, it will only cost five dollars ($5) for each of your sons/daughters to participate in the climbing activities!
This is a wonderful opportunity for each of you to get involved with a Summit Elks Lodge sponsored event and to provide your sons and/or daughters a chance to learn more about, and hopefully join, such a strong and worthwhile organization as the Venturing Scouts - an organization whose guiding principles align so well with those of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
If you are interested in volunteering or having you child participate in the event, please notify John DeSocio, Lodge Secretary at (908) 656-1327 or via e-mail, jdesocio1432@comcast.net.
We ask that you please give strong consideration to volunteering and/or having you child participate in this Elks sponsored event, and hope to see you there!
