"Stop Human Trafficking Now": Free Program on Modern Day Slavery

The League of Women Voters (BHNPS), the American Association of University Women (Summit College Club) and the Junior League of Summit invite the general public to an informative program about human trafficking Thursday, November 14, 2013, 7:30pm at the Calvary Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Summit, NJ.

Human trafficking occurs when someone knowingly holds, entices, harbors, transports, provides or obtains by any means another person to engage in sexual activity or to provide labor or services.  Simply put, it's modern day slavery. And with the 2014 Super Bowl in the Meadowlands drawing near, the greater Summit community needs to be made more aware of the dangers involved.

There will be a presentation and panel discussion from regional experts on the topic, who will cover the perils of human trafficking and what can be done to stop it.

Past Junior Leagues of NJ State Public Affairs Chair, Patricia Devine-Harms noted, “Junior League women have worked diligently since 2005 to raise awareness about the horrors of human trafficking and to implement laws that are victim-centered and hold perpetrators more accountable.  Our objective is to speak up for those that are forced to keep quiet and to empower survivors whom have escaped enslavement.  Awareness and effective partnerships are vitally important in preventing trafficking and reducing demand."
