Jim Kymer took over over three decades ago, so he's seen everything. He reacted well after storm rains caused heavy damage to his business at the corner of Summit and Springfield Avenues downtown. Kymer answered a few questions for Patch about recovering from storm water and the history of his eyewear business on a busy little corner of the city.
You suffered some water damage to your property recently, what happened (Heavy rainfall hit the region in late April.)?
Jim Kymer: April 23rd, we experienced water damage from the rain gutters overflowing. Four inches of water came through the ceiling and forced us to close till June 1st.
And how did you bounce back from that?
Jim Kymer: We delt with it by purchasing bistro tables and chairs and taking care of our patients as best we could. Outside! Our hours were limited — but we did the best we could.

Jim Kymer: My grandfather opened on Main Street in Orange in 1928. My father James L Kymer and Uncle Jack Squires married the Deuchler daughters.
When my grandfather passed away, my dad and uncle became partners — which lasted for over 40 years.
