Robert J. Sheehan, Longtime Summit Resident, Dies at 82

Sheehan received a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and a Masters of Business Administration from Babson College.

Robert J. Sheehan of Summit passed away at home Saturday at the age of 82.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Avenue, Summit. The funeral will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. A funeral mass, celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Summit, will follow at 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in St. Teresa's Cemetery in Summit. 

Sheehan, formerly of Arlington, Mass., moved to Summit in 1980 and became active in the community, serving on the Summit Historical Society and the Summit Zoning Board. Additionally, he co-founded the East Summit Association and the Bryant Park Conservancy.

He served in the Army during the Korean War, and later, had a long and dedicated career at New England Telephone and then as an Executive with AT&T, NJ for over 39 years. 

Sheehan is survived by his wife of 28 years, Christine (nee Truhe) of Summit. He is the loving father of Lauren Sheehan, Debbie Carroll, Karen Miller, Robin McDonald, Joanne Sheehan, Mary Ellen Bolivar, Kathleen Strick and step-son Michael Aros-Truhe. Cherished grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 1. He is the dear brother of the late Richard Sheehan.
