From the Berkeley Heights Police Department:

On Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:11 p.m., Ptl. Andrew Glaydura investigated a suspicious incident that occurred in the 600 block of Plainfield Avenue.

A resident reported that a male knocked on her front door and identified himself as “Bob” and that he cut trees for a living.

He advised her that he noticed a lot of trees in her backyard that could use trimming.

When the resident called for her husband, “Bob” told her that he had to leave because of an emergency.

The suspect got into a black pickup truck and drove south on Plainfield Avenue.

He was described as a Hispanic male with olive skin, approximately 5’10”, 150 lbs, with thick black hair.

The truck was described as having four doors.

The matter has been referred to the Investigations Division.

The same exact thing happened to us, in Summit. The description of the suspect & vehicle were exactly the same. This happened on Aug 9, around 6pm. The only difference is that rather than say he cut trees, the man said he noticed the drive way had cracks and that he could repair it.
