The truck's wheels jumped the curb and it tumbled on top of a silver sports utility vehicle. The woman driving the SUV, who was not identified, jumped out of her vehicle and was shaking in the roadway. The concrete truck driver was trapped for more than an hour, according to witness reports.

"I was thinking, 'Wow, that concrete truck is going too fast for a concrete truck. Then, the crash happened inches away from me,'" said Kara Richardson Whitely, a Summit resident, who was in the right lane of Springfield Avenue as the crash occurred in the left lane. Whitely was one of several people who called 911. Soon the intersection was flooded with emergency vehicles from Summit and surrounding towns.
