Naked Man Found in New Jersey Woods With No Memory

Police are calling for help from New Jersey residents to help identify a man found on Sunday, wandering alone and naked in the woods covered in mud, near Route 202.

Police are trying to find out what happened to a man found wandering naked in the woods yesterday, apparently suffering from amnesia.

As reported by Mahwah Patch, at approximately noon on Sunday the Mahwah Police received a 911 call regarding a naked man in the wooded area off of Route 202 near the Route 17 southbound ramp.

Responding officers located the above pictured individual, who was covered in mud and walking through the woods.  After claiming he did not know his name, where he was or where he came from, the man was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

There were no signs of any head trauma or injuries that could account for his memory loss, according to the police report.

Officials believe a pile of clothing found nearby may belong to the man, said Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli in an interview with msnbc.com.  There was some accompanying paperwork from New York State, but no identifying documents were found.

In the article published on Monday, Batelli speculated that the man may not have been in the forest long because that there was only a slight hair growth on his face. The man, who appeared relatively healthy and well nourished, is probably in his late 30s or early 40s.  He was uncommunicative and did not appear lucid, Batelli said.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the man.  Though his photo was released to various New Jersey media outlets Sunday, police say so far no one has come forward with any information.
