One Sent to Hospital After Equipment Fire at Mall

A power washing machine caught fire when workers refueled it.

A worker was burned and sent to the hospital when a power washing machine caught fire at the Mall at Short Hills on Tuesday.

Summit firefighters provided mutual aid on the scene. Firefighters responded to the mall about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday on the report of an exterior fire. The mall closed at 9 p.m. Workers were power washing the Neiman Marcus entrance to the mall, according to a Millburn Fire Department report.

While the workers were refueling the machine, it caught fire. The workers had extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived, the report stated. One worker had burns to his lower right leg, and the Millburn-Short Hills First Aid Squad transported him to an area hospital for treatment.
