Passaic Avenue Home Uninhabitable After Christmas Night Fire

Fire began near the stove area of the kitchen, Deputy Chief Eric Evers said.

The Summit Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that gutted the kitchen of a home on Passaic Avenue Christmas night.

The residents, who were home at the time the fire began, all made it out safely, said Deputy Chief Eric Evers. The fire began in the kitchen, near the stove, and was contained to that room, he added, but due to smoke and heat damage, the home was deemed uninhabitable, temporarily displacing its occupants.

The department received a call at 9:11 p.m. and was on the scene at 9:14 p.m., Evers said. The fire was brought under control by 9:43 p.m. The Millburn Fire Department responded to the scene and three other Union County companies assisted by covering incoming calls at fire headquarters.

No injuries were reported, Evers said.
