Police blotter: Two DUI arrests and a break-in

Police also arrest a homeless man downtown and charge him with assault

Summit police made two DUI arrests, received a report of a vehicle break-in and charged a man who said he was homeless with assault, during the week of Aug. 3-Aug. 10.

  • On August 3, shortly before 5 p.m., 33-year-old Christina P. Gallo of New Providence was arrested at Ashland Road and Maple Street for "failure to keep right" and driving while intoxicated.
  • At about 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 7, Kanika R. Williams, 24, of Irvington, was arrested at Broad Street and Springfield Avenue for a Maintenance of Lamps violation, driving on a suspended license, and contempt of court.
  • Twenty-five year old Yieson Orozco of Chatham was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 at Rt. 124 West and Summit Avenue, for driving while intoxicated, careless driving, refusal to submit to a breath test and disregarding a red light.
  • On Aug. 8, 50-year-old Brian Miller of Morristown was arrested around 10:45 p.m. at the Denville Police Department on a Summit warrant for contempt of court.
  • At 2 p.m. on Aug. 8, police received a report of a forced entry at a vacant residence on Middle Avenue. The break-in was discovered by the owner at 9 a.m. that morning. The owner reported that nothing appeared to be missing.
  • Lester Stewart, a 48-year-old man who said he was homeless, was  arrested at Broad Street and Maple Street and charged with simple assault.
  • A Meadowbrook Court resident contacted police about 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 10 to report a theft from a vehicle parked in the resident's driveway, sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 7:30 a.m. Aug. 10. Items taken included a coin purse containing $6 in coins and a pair of prescription reading glasses.
  • Also on Aug. 10, 42-year-old Keith Jordan of Vauxhall was arrested at 11:35 a.m. at Glenwood Place on a Summit warrant for contempt of court.
