Police Calls Up in March

The latest activity report shows calls are down in 2011 over the same time frame in 2010.

Police calls increased slightly in March over February, rising 68 calls or 3.69 percent.

Of the 1,838 calls for service in March, 98 were for crimes, 1720 for incidents and 20 for escorts.

But the year-to-date shows calls are down 891, or 14.15 percent, through March when compared to the first three months of 2010.

Of the calls for service in March, police responded to 30 accidents with property damage, three accidents with injuries, two pedestrian accidents, four assaults, four disorderly persons, and two automobile thefts. The also issued 269 tickets for moving violations, up slightly from 242 in February, and 532 tickets for parking violations, up from 491 in February.

Detectives opened 104 investigations in March, which is up 12.5 percent from 91 in February, including five petty larcenies, seven grand larcenies, four assaults, four disorderly persons, and two auto thefts.

As a result of these investigations, Summit police made 19 arrests in March including three juveniles. Charges included malicious mischief, narcotics and liquor law violations.
