Red Cross Hosts Disaster-Preparedness Meeting

Police and fire departments seek volunteers for emergency response teams.

With the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Irene in August and the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaching, the Red Cross is joining forces with the police and fire departments to help Summit residents be more prepared in the event of a natural disaster.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, 'Be Red Cross Ready' will be held at the Lawton C. Johnson auditorium. The police and fire departments will be seeking volunteers for emergency response teams who would be ready to assist in times of disaster.

Attendees will receive vital information on how to make a disaster preparedness kit, a family emergency plan, obtain first aid training, and also find out how they can help their community be prepared.
