With the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Irene in August and the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaching, the Red Cross is joining forces with the police and fire departments to help Summit residents be more prepared in the event of a natural disaster.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, 'Be Red Cross Ready' will be held at the Lawton C. Johnson auditorium. The police and fire departments will be seeking volunteers for emergency response teams who would be ready to assist in times of disaster.

Attendees will receive vital information on how to make a disaster preparedness kit, a family emergency plan, obtain first aid training, and also find out how they can help their community be prepared.

In order to ensure adequate space, all residents planning to attend the presentation should contact the city by one of the following methods: (1) e-mail cert@cityofsummit.org; (2) call Summit Police Lt. Cantone at 908-277-9403; or (3) call Fire Department Deputy Chief Evers at 908-277-9353.

All are invited to attend.

What is the date for the Disaster Preparedness meeting? The article is posted on September 19, and says that the meeting will be held at "7 p.m. Wednesday" but doesn't provide a date.

Hi Alen, it'll be held on Sept. 25. When something is happening within the next 7 days, it's Patch's style to print the day rather than the date. Thanks, Liz
