Summit Named 44th Safest Community in NJ by Safewise

Safewise pairs data from the FBI's Crime in the U.S. Report from 2011 with its own comprehensive investigation.

The City of Summit was named the 44th safest community in New Jersey earlier this month by Safewise, a company dedicated to reviewing and analyzing security systems.

In its list of the Top 50 Safe Safest Communities in New Jersey, Safewise described Summit as "a socially and culturally diverse community with a robust economy, safe neighborhoods and an ideal location. Situated just 30 minutes from Manhattan and from the Newark Liberty International Airport, it’s a commuter’s paradise. Summit also boasts a welcoming, walkable downtown where small business owners know you by name."

To create the Top 50 list, Safewise uses the data from the 2011 FBI's Crime in the U.S. Report, in addition to the company's own comprehensive investigation.

The study also referenced Summit's powerful "artistic and cultural traditions."

Union County neighbors also made the list with Scotch Plains named the 33rd safest community; Cranford was listed as 34th and Westfield the 36th. The No. 1 safest community was Mahwah Township.
