Cops Investigate Theft of Rec Center Cash

Police are looking into the theft of more than $1,000, which occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Over $1,000 was recently stolen from the on Morris Avenue according to police. Details are sketchy at the moment, but according to an item in the Summit Police log, cash was taken from a lockbox at the center this week.

Summit Police Captain Andrew Bartolotti would not release a copy of the theft report pending a police inquiry into the matter. "This is is an ongoing criminal investigation, " he told Patch.

Police have reported, however, that $1,426 in cash was taken from the center between 7p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, and 8:30a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4. It's not clear if the box was indoors or outside.

Employees at the , which operates the rec center would not discuss the matter. Director of community programs Judith L. Josephs is away on vacation and couldn't be reached for comment.
