Summit PD Plans April 25 Public Meeting

The department is getting behind a move to establish a new watch program through the Community Policing Unit.

Strengthening the bonds between community and the has been a focus of Summit's  since he took over the department in the fall.

In tandem with having officers visible on the streets of Summit, through afternoon and evening foot and bicycle patrols, there's also a focus on getting citizens to watch each other's backs. The topic was discussed at city goal setting meetings in the winter. Weck maintained that jumpstarting a Neighborhood Watch program in Summit was a priority.

On Jan. 9 the department established the Community Policing Unit, according to Sgt. Ron Martin who heads the group. Officers Ryan Stanek and Kathleen Maggiulli round out the team and work as D.A.R.E officers as well.
