Summit PD Says String of Thefts on Huntley Rd. Are Connected

Editor's note: The following information was supplied by the Summit Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Last week, a string of thefts from vehicles were reported along Huntley Road. Between 7:30p.m. and 11p.m. on April 3, cars in the area were entered and items allegedly taken. In all, property valued at just over $450 was reported stolen from the vehicles.

The earliest reported incident that night occurred between 9:15p.m. and 10:30p.m. when a $1 and a pack of cigarettes were stolen from a parked car. The second incident involved a car parked in a Huntley Road driveway. Between 7:30p.m. and 11p.m., according to a police report, a pair of black Serenaeti sunglasses valued at $250 was missing from the car.

The final reported Huntley Road vehicle entry took place before 11:07p.m. and a total of $200 cash was reported missing from a wallet that was left in that car.

"We're looking at it as a connected job," said Lt. Andrew Bartolotti of the . The string of incidents, which included vehicle entry reports for an Eaton Court residence happened in the span of 20 to 25 minutes, he said. "Every one of [the vehicles] was unlocked," Bartolotti added.

That same night an Eaton Court residence reported thefts from two vehicles parked there at around 11:20p.m. A Garmin GPS and $83.60 in cash was reported stolen from the two vehicles.

Two days later, on April 5, another theft from a vehicle was reported, this time on Broad Street. A resident reported a valet key missing from a vehicle that was parked on the street at the same time as the earlier incidents.

Bartolotti said his department can't stress enough the importance of locking vehicle doors overnight.  It's not only a problem in Summit, but region-wide. And the best way to deter vehicle-entry crime? "Just lock your doors", he said.
