Summit Resident Hospitalized in JFK Parkway Crash

Millburn police are still investigating cause of accident.

A NJ Transit bus possibly caused a crash on John F. Kennedy Parkway last week, but police have yet to determine the specific cause.

A 17-year-old Summit resident was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital when her sports utility vehicle flipped on the highway last Thursday afternoon. The accident closed the highway for about a hour.

No charges have been filed in connection to the crash.

The victim struck the center barrier, which caused the vehicle to flip onto its side, said Police Capt. James Miller. The victim reported she was cut off and "possibly struck" by a NJ Transit bus, which caused the crash, he said. A witness also reported seeing a bus change lanes in front of the victim's vehicle before the crash, he said.

Police have not been able to determine if a bus indeed was involved with the crash, Miller said. There was no bus in the area at the time of the crash, he said. Officers found a bus after checking the area, but their investigation was inconclusive, he said.
