Power Restored to Many Neighborhoods

Overlook, fire house and at least some of downtown has been restored.

After a four-hour power outage most of Summit's power has been restored, including at the Family Aquatic Center, the fire house and at Overlook Hospital. Nearby Chatham has also seen its power restored.

Jersey Central Power and Light is reporting that some customers may still be without power at this time. All 4th of July festivities are scheduled to take place on time at Memorial Field.

The cause of the outage was reportedly a power surge at the James A. Traynor sub-station on the border of Chatham and Summit. There was a brief brown out about five minutes prior to the actual power outage.

Fire Chief Joseph Houck said one emergency generator was lent to a resident for medical reasons.

In addition to the power outages, brush fires broke out on Passaic Avenue and Orchard Street earlier today. The fire on Orchard was not suspicious, Houck said, and was the cause of the 30 minute delays New Jersey Transit experienced early today.
