Woman Taken to Hospital Following Rt. 78 Crash

Millburn, Summit and Springfield firefighters respond to the scene.

A woman was taken to the hospital after her SUV rolled over on Route 78 on Saturday.

Firefighters from Millburn, Summit and Springfield responded to the Orchard Street overpass on Route 78 East near Exit 48 in Springfield at just after 7 p.m. A woman was trapped inside her Ford Explorer after it rolled over onto the embankment of the overpass, according to a Millburn Fire Department report.

Millburn and Summit firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut off the roof and doors of the SUV before extricating the woman. The Summit First Aid Squad then took her to a nearby hospital.

A baby also was in a car seat in the rear of the SUV, but the baby and car seat had been removed before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Springfield firefighters stood by with a hose as a precaution. State troopers were on scene, and there were a number of bystanders there when firefighters arrived.
