American Legion Post, Summit Elks to Host U.S. Naval Academy Event

Anyone interested in learning more about the Naval Academy, its history and mission are encouraged to attend.

The following was submitted by Summit Councilman Patrick Hurley:

American Legion Post 322 and the Summit Elks will host an information session about the United States Naval Academy at 8 p.m. Monday at the Elks Club, 40 Maple Street in Summit.

Come learn about this elite institution, whose graduates include a President, Members of Congress, Astronauts, Medal of Honor winners, world champion professional athletes, and numerous public and private sector leaders. Learn about its mission, honor code and what daily life is like behind the walls for those top young Americans who are selected to attend, how they are selected and why they choose to apply.  

The event will be open to the public and will feature current Naval Academy Midshipmen Midshipman First Class Carey Fries, of Summit, Summit High Class of 2010 and Midshipman First Class David Guerin of Sterling, Koinonia Academy Class of 2010 along with alumni, giving a presentation followed by a question and answer period. 

Anyone interested in learning more about the Naval Academy, its history and mission are encouraged to attend. Area middle and high school students, along with their parents, who may be interested in someday applying are strongly encouraged to attend.

Fries will also host a presentation at 3:15 p.m. Monday at Lawton C. Johnson Middle School in the Orchestra Room (Room 160).
