Congressman Leonard Lance Congratulates Summit Intern

Tom Garvey,19, is the son of Tom and Mary Garvey of Summit. He is a 2011 graduate of Summit High School.

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) announced that Tom Garvey of Summit has completed a summer internship in his Capitol Hill Office. Garvey, 19, is currently a sophomore at Villanova University, where he is pursuing a double major in Political Science and the Honors Program.

“Tom is a bright and talented young man and I am proud of the hard-work and professionalism he contributed to my congressional office,” Lance said.

“Internships in the Capitol are a great way for students to learn more about how our government works and serve the people of their community through public service.”

 Interns in Lance’s congressional office perform a variety of duties, including preparing briefings and reports for staffers, facilitating and guiding tours of the U.S. Capitol for visiting resident, greeting office visitors, and helping staff with legislative research projects as well as constituent correspondence.

 “The opportunity to work for Congressman Lance in our nation’s Capitol has been an amazing experience,” said Garvey. “I have learned firsthand how our government operates and the opportunity to spend time on the Hill has been a truly wonderful one. I am extremely grateful to Congressman Lance for allowing me the opportunity to serve the people of the great state of New Jersey. ”
