Council Candidate Campaigns Against Helipad

Steve Murphy, the Democratic candidate for the at-large common council seat, is making an issue of the proposed helipad at Overlook Hospital. On Saturday, Murphy gathered friends, family and supporters to argue that the proposed helipad—to be built at Overlook Hospital—would be a liability to the town and would threaten the quality of life of residents living on the east side of town.

A large group gathered at Murphy's Woodland Avenue residence, and following a few words and statements by Murphy and Bill Coons—the secretary of the local Democratic Party—the group broke up and went on their way to distribute flyers door-to-door throughout town.  Approx. 1,500 flyers were handed out or left for residents to read.

Murphy himself led the charge. Accompanied by his four children (Shannon, Coleen, Lauren, and Conner), he canvassed East Summit taking the time to speak to at-home residents individually. Local resident Alberto Alonso (see photos) said he was eager to hear what Murphy had to say, living in relative close proximity to Overlook Hospital. 

Paul Dillon, the Chairman of the Summit Democratic Party, joined Murphy to lend his support.

The zoning board will hold a public hearing on this issue on Monday, September 14.
