Council to Introduce 2-hour Free Shopper Parking Ordinance Aug. 2

Parking is currently free in Park & Shops lots 1, 2, 3 and 4.

City Solicitor Barry Osmun has advised the Common Council  that the parking ordinance enacted on November 1, 2010  that established fees for the City’s four Park & Shop Lots was not enforceable because a  subsequent payment mechanism ordinance was not authorized.

Those that may have received a parking ticket from November 11, 2010 until July 18, 2011 in the Park & Shop Lots 1, 2, 3, located on DeForest Avenues and the Park & Shop Lot #4  (Ground Level of the Tier Garage), may contact the Parking Services Agency for
a refund at parkandshoptickets@cityofsummit.org or by calling 908-598-2187.

“The approximate revenue to be reimbursed by the municipality will be $13,500," said Parking Services Manager Rita McNany in a press release Friday afternoon.

At the August 2, 2011 Council Meeting, the governing body will consider the introduction of a new ordinance to reinstitute 2-hour free shopper parking.

“Until new regulations take effect, we wish to encourage visitors to park in our shopper lots for a few extra hours while enjoying Summit’s wonderful downtown,” said Mayor Jordan Glatt in a press release.

Council President Bomgaars said echoed the mayor's encouragement.

“August being a vacation month in Summit, we hope shoppers, visitors and everyone vacationing here will come downtown and use these lots
to shop locally," he said.
