Recycling Changes Take Effect Today

Great Northern will now pick up recycling weekly instead of bi-weekly.

A new weekly curbside recycling schedule takes effect today which will correspond with garbage pickup and save the city $80,000.

Weekly recycling will eliminate zones in the city and plastics number 1 through 7, including food and beverage containers, films, wraps and trays, liquid detergents, personal care product bottles, bottle caps/closures/lids, cereal box liners, dry cleaning bags, toys, cutlery, yogurt containers, aspirin bottles, and medicine bottles, will now be accepted whereas only 1 and 2 previously were.

In a press release, the Department of Community Services said that an increase in recycling will also mean decreased disposal costs, meaning an additional savings.
