Springfield T-Mobile Hearing Continues Wednesday

Summit residents oppose tower on Knights of Columbus property.

The Springfield Zoning Board of Adjustment will continue its hearing on a proposed T-Mobile cell tower on Shunpike Road along the Summit/Springfield border.

The board began the hearing last month with testimony from a telecommunications expert who argued the tower is needed to fill a gap in coverage.

T-Mobile is seeking a variance in Springfield’s building codes, which cap construction at 40 feet.

Mayor Jordan Glatt told Patch last month that the common council passed a resolution expressing their opposition to this proposal.

“It would be nice if our friends in Springfield would do the neighborly thing and not place this unsightly tower on our boarder," Glatt said. "There is a reason they have chosen an area as far away from their residents as possible to place this tower. That’s because their residents don’t want it.  Let’s be clear: Summit’s residents don’t want it either."

The Springfield Zoning Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Springfield Town Hall.
