Summit Backs Booker in U.S. Senate Race

Voter turnout was at 26 and 28 percent in Ward I and II, respectively.

Newark Mayor Corey Booker won election to the U.S. Senate Wednesday, defeating Steve Lonegan in the race to replace the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Summit voters in both Ward I and Ward II supported Booker. In unofficial results, the new U.S. senator topped his opponent, 1011 to 772 votes in Ward I, and 1133 to 865 votes in Ward II.

In Ward I, 26 percent of registered voters cast their ballots, while in Ward II, 28 percent of registered voters went to the polls.
