Summit Democrats Select Meyers and Vernotico for Common Council

Danny Meyers was selected for the Council At-Large position and Mike Vernotico was selected for the Ward 2 position.

The following information was provided by Summit Democrats.

The Summit Democrats held a meeting Wednesday night to select candidates for Common Council.   After a short discussion led by Committee Chair Terri Tauber, the Committee Members unanimously approved the candidacies of Danny Meyers for the Council At-Large position and Mike Vernotico for the Ward 2 position.  No candidate was identified for Ward 1.

Meyers is the Owner/Operator of a home and building inspection business, Meyers Home Inspections.  He holds an engineering degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in NY.  He has lived in Summit for 7 years with his wife, Lisa Reznik, the owner of the Film Society of Summit, and their two children.

Vernotico, who was raised in Summit and graduated from Summit High School, served on Council for two terms as a Republican.  When asked why he joined the Summit Democrats, Mike said, "I have always been a moderate, a true middle of the road type of person.   I believe that the local GOP leadership moved too far to the right for me.  I found myself siding with Mayor Glatt and Steve Murphy on issue after issue.   With me, it is all about community service, staying in touch with the public and representing their interests, not marching in lockstep with a political party.   Debate is healthy.  I have always had friends in the Democratic Party and feel more comfortable with their views here on the local level."

Vernotico is married to Joanne and they will be celebrating their 42nd anniversary this year.  He graduated from Princeton University and is a Principal in the firm, Landmark MVM Realty Advisors.
According to Tauber, the Summit Democrats are still talking to a few people who may be interested in running in Ward 1.  “We are very good at write-in campaigns, so don’t count us out in Ward 1.  My goal is to have a full ticket by June 4th.”
