Summit Mayor Wishes Public Happy New Year

Ellen Dickson said she is glad the city's power has been restored following a widespread outage.

Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson hosted a holiday open house Thursday afternoon at City Hall.

Dickson presented attendees with copies of Cynthia Martin's recently-released 'Summit Historic Homes' as a gift. The Summit author and historian was on hand to dedicate and sign the books, which feature more than 200 vintage images of the magnificent homes of Summit.

The mayor said she was pleased power had been restored to the city's homes and schools following a widespread outage that began around 2 a.m. JCP&L estimated 3,000 customers were without power as a result of a raccoon getting into a Summit substation. City officials recalled when a squirrel wreaked havoc on the nearby Borough of Madison after getting into a substation several years ago.

City Administrator Chris Cotter said power had been restored Brayton School, which was closed Thursday due to the outage.
