Summit Remembers 9/11 With Memorial Observance

Ceremony honored those who perished and those who came to the aid of others 12 years ago.

Members of the Summit Fire Department welcomed the community to a memorial observance in honor of the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the U.S.

Mayor Ellen Dickson and council member Patrick Hurley thanked the department and all who selflessly serve the community and beyond.

Calling first responders and volunteers "America's real leaders," Hurley said the very nature of their jobs forces them to be "one hunderd percent accountable." He added that the men and women who serve as firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel serve as beacons of leadership and integrity, qualities that "America craves" across the nation.

Rev. Marco Celis, vicar at St. Theresa of Avila Parish, spoke and said, "Today we pray for peace for all the troubled place of the world." He concluded with the Lord's Prayer.
