Summit Teen 'Great Addition' to Congressman's Staff

Kyle Codey says his just-completed Capitol Hill internship helped him make a difference and be part of history.

A Summit teenager has come to the end of his internship on Capitol Hill, and 7th District U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance says the local boy made good.

Kyle Codey, 19, a sophomore at American University in Washington, D.C., apparently made a great impression as a member of Lance's staff.

“Kyle has been a great addition to my Washington office,” said the congressman. “He pursues tasks with vigor and he demonstrates a strong interest in government and public service.

"Kyle always has a great attitude and I thank him for his service to New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.”

This was no pleasure cruise for the Summit resident. Congressional interns work hard performing a variety of duties, including preparing briefings and reports for staffers, facilitating and guiding tours of the U.S. Capitol for visiting residents, greeting office visitors and helping staff with legislative research projects as well as constituent correspondence.

Lance’s office has hosted more than 100 constituent students in the internship program, and Codey said he appreciated being one of them.

“Working this summer for Congressman Lance was an amazing experience,” he said.  “I want to thank Congressman Lance and the staff for teaching me so much and letting me be of service to my home district.  I feel I was able to make a difference and I got to witness historic events, such as New Jersey’s transition to a new U.S. senator.”
