Text of Summit's Latest CodeRED Advisory

Message sent out Wednesday afternoon warns about generator usage, Halloween and JCP&L power restoration.

The City of Summit released the following emergency advisory to residents this afternoon around 4p.m. Among the items listed include a message on school closings, the Middle School shelter and the transfer station.

Residents are encouraged to dispose of leaves and other compost at the transfer station beginning tomorrow. A water conservation alert is in effect and generator safety is advised. There have been several reports of noxious fumes entering homes due to generator use.

Your children will be able to go Halloween trick or treating on Saturday, Nov. 3.

• THE SUMMIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED THURSDAY AND FRIDAY THIS WEEK. IF YOU HAVE FAMILY OR FRIENDS WITH POWER, PLEASE CONSIDER STAYING WITH THEM.

• JCP&L DOES NOT EXPECT TO RESTORE POWER TO THIS AREA FOR AT LEAST 7 – 10 DAYS. THEY ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON RESTORATION OF TRANSMISSION LINES IN SUMMIT. PLEASE BE PATIENT.

• THE SUMMIT MIDDLE SCHOOL LOCATED AT 272 MORRIS AVENUE CONTINUES TO BE USED AS A SHELTER AS WELL AS A WARMING AND CHARGING STATION. PLEASE BRING A RESUABLE CUP AND IF YOU HAVE EXTRA COFFEE GRINDS TO HELP MAKE COFFEE PLEASE BRING WITH YOU.

• HALLOWEEN TRICK-OR-TREATING HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO SATURDAY, NOV. 3.

• THE COMPOST AREA AT THE TRANSFER STATION WILL BE OPEN TOMORROW FOR DISPOSAL OF BRANCHES AND LEAVES.

• NJ AMERICAN WATER COMPANY IS ASKING THAT CUSTOMERS CONSERVE WATER AS THE COMPANY’S FACILITIES ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING ON BACK-UP POWER. WATER QUALITY IS STILL FINE.

• PORTABLE GENERATORS MUST BE OPERATED OUTDOORS AWAY FROM ANY DOOR OR WINDOW.
