Low Summit Voter Turnout For U.S. Senate Primary Election

Only 9.1 percent of Ward 1 and 10 percent of Ward 2 voters hit the polls on Tuesday.

A low number of Summit voters hit the polls on Tuesday for the U.S. Senate Primary Election. But according to unofficial results, the same candidates led the polls in both wards.

Out of the 6,778 registered Ward 1 voters, only 622 (9.1 percent) voted in the election.

Democrat Cory Booker received 277 votes, followed by Republican Steven Lonegan with 146 votes.

Democrat Rush Holt followed Lonegan with 89 votes. Democrat Frank Pallone, Jr. received 61 votes, followed by Republican Alieta Eck with 48 votes and Democrat Sheila Oliver with 10 votes.

In Ward 2, 718 (10 percent) of the 7,169 registered voters headed to the polls on Tuesday.

Ward 2 residents voted in a similar way, as Booker received 323 votes and Lonegan with 198 votes.

Holt received 95 votes, followed by Pallone, Jr. with 44 votes, Eck with 33 votes and Oliver with 18 votes.
