Board Awards Bids for Three RODS Grant Projects

Included is the bid for emergency generators at Summit High.

The Board of Education unanimously approved awarding bids for three Regular Operating District (ROD) III grant projects Thursday night, including one for emergency generators at .

The Board approved awarding a bid for partial window replacements at and Schools and exterior painting at Jefferson because of lead paint abatement to RD Architectural Products, Inc. of Fair Lawn for $641,200. There were three bids on the project.

The award for emergency generators at Summit High School and was approved for Manor II Electric of Holmdel in the amount of $302,844, $300,000 less than estimated in October when the the $4.7 million grant application.

The RODS program returns to the district 40 cents on the dollar every dollar it spends on capital improvements. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nathan Parker said last year the safety projects that they've completed are too expensive to tackle without the grants.

The board also approved awarding a bid for mechanical system upgrades at LCJSMS to Thassion Mechanical Contracting, Inc. of Belford in the amount of $766,000, also more than $300,000 less than original estimates.

"We were actually very fortunate to have a lot of bidders," Business Administrator Lou Pepe said.

The last project received 11 bids.

Summit has already used two other ROD grants: one, to replace roofs, fire doors and fire alarms at many schools and do other mechanical upgrades; the second funded a partial window and door replacement at every school in the district except Summit High.

The RODS-III application also included auditorium renovations at Summit High School. No bids have been awarded yet in that project however school staff presented at the March 10 workshop meeting.
