NJ Education Official to Discuss Future of Student Assessment

Dr. Bari Erlichson will discuss the transition from NJASK and HSPA to PARCC in 2015.

Dr. Bari Erlichson, assistant commissioner of New Jersey Department of Education, will visit the Summit public school district from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School to discuss national and state developments in public education, which will directly impact students.

Erlichson will explain many initiatives, including New Jersey's student achievement outcomes on statewide and national assessments, such as National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Additionally, she will address the future of New Jersey's student assessment program, including the transition to PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) in 2015.

PARCC, a partnership of 22 states, has been working over the last several years to launch new assessments in English language arts and math, aligned to the Common Core, in the 2014-15 school year. These tests will replace current statewide assessments, i.e., NJ ASK and HSPA, Erlichson explained in a letter to schools superintendents written in March 2013.
