Flamingo Invasion Takes Over Summit

Wondering what all the pink flamingos are about? Read on to find out.

The flamingos are back!

Once again, students will raise money for project graduation by planting a flock of pink flamingos in front lawns around town.  A very successful and fun fundraiser the last five years, the project has raised between $2,000 and 5,000 each year and raised awareness around town about Project Graduation. Summit High School families will have the opportunity to designate other families to flamingo (for a fee).

Families who have been flamingoed have the opportunity to hire a flamingo removal service for a $20 donation. (Donations are all optional; the flamingoes will be removed at the end of the day whether a donation is made or not.)  For an additional donation, the family can designate another SHS family to send the flamingos to.  Letters will be sent to all SHS parents describing the fundraiser and offering flamingo “insurance.”

Ground rules:

  1. Flamingos will be planted daily after nightfall in groups of 10-40 along with a sign that says “Support Project Graduation."
  2. A white sign with a large “no flamingo” logo will be distributed to every family with the letter about the fundraiser.  This will be the insurance.  We will ask for a $25 donation for insurance, but obviously that will be optional as people will be free to post the sign in their front door regardless of whether they donate.
  3. An envelope and donation form will be left with the flamingos.  The donation form will also allow the family to order flamingos to be sent to another family.
  4. The PG committee will keep a list of all homes that have been flamingoed and will repeat houses only if they have been requested to do so by a flamingo victim.
  5. If someone who has not been flamingoed would like to send flamingos to a Summit family, they can do so by sending a note with a donation to Project Graduation, c/o Summit Community Club, PO Box 202, Summit. Flamingos are on sale now through mid-June.
